When I first went out to work, back in the day, the top brass were always men – all the directors and chief operating officers. The only time a woman featured at the top of any company was if she was married to the boss or was the daughter of him. Not too many women reached the pinnacle in their own right without having to make many concessions. Today’s world is so very different, still unfair as far as many women are concerned but things are evening out slowly but surely. In the old days, the secretaries were critically important to the boss – sometimes this would be acknowledged by way of a nice card on birthdays etc. On the whole the secretary would reliably run things but get little credit. Now we have executive PA – personal assistant, which can be a truly awesome role and worth every penny of the much increased pay packet.
