Liverpool will this week (5th March) be named as one of ten new Fair Trade Cities.

At an official launch at the town hall, campaigners will hear how Liverpool now has met all the criteria for the award including

  • fair trade tea and coffee being served in council buildings

  • cafes, restaurants and schools joining in by selling fair trade products#

  • the City Council adopting a fair trade policy

Says Garston Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesperson, Paula Keaveney:

" Liverpool is a city whose reach has extended across the world. Through the Fair Trade Initiative, we will be able to ready out to developing countries giving producers a helping hand and people living many thousands of miles away a better life".

More information about Fair Trade is available at www.fairtrade.org.uk. To be put in touch with the Fair Trade campaign organisers in Liverpool, please e mail Paula Keaveney at
