Lib Dems triumph in local elections

11.52.05am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 11th Jun 2004

Garston Liberal Democrats have won all but one of the local election seats in the constituency

Three Lib Dem councillors were elected in

Alllerton and Hunts Cross

Cressington

Speke Garston

and Woolton

In Belle Vale two Lib Dems and one Labour councillor were elected.

The percentage vote across the constituency for the Lib Dems was 60 percent.

Says Parliamentary Spokesperson Paula Keaveney (who was one of those elected in Speke Garston)

"This is a brilliant result which bodes well for the general election. Even in the ward where Labour managed to get one councillor elected, the result was really close and we will be challenging hard there next time"
