Pride in our Area Campaign - launches in Garston

12.00.00am GMT Tue 14th Dec 2004

A campaign to give local people more of a say in their area, and to encourage shared pride in their neighbourhood, has been launched in Garston.

The campaign, which will run in a few communities in South Liverpool in 2005 as a trial, is the idea of Councillor Paula Keaveney.

In Garston the Vineyard Street area has been chosen, and a first public meeting held to get local views. There will also be a similar scheme in part of the Belle Vale ward.

Says Paula: " I came up with the idea when hearing more about the fantastic Woolton in Bloom success. We can't all live in Woolton Village, but we can all think about ways of making our own neighbourhoods better. The Pride Campaign aims to try this out in two or three areas. The idea is to leave a sustainable improvement and to help create community spirit."

It's hoped that,. where no organised community group exists, the campaign will create one so that community action continues into the future.
