Deadline day for Tesco plan objections

12.00.00am GMT Tue 25th Jan 2005

January 26th is the deadline for objections or comments on the plan by Tescos on Mather Avenue to expand the store.

The City Council planning committee originally turned the scheme down, but the store has appealed and an inspector from the Deputy Prime Minister's Office will have to decide.

Tescos wants more shop floor and adjustments to the car park and petrol station.

Local campaigners, including Lib Dem Councillors for the area, have pointed out that this would mean more traffic and the loss of some playing fields.

Labours green issue spokesperson spoke in favour of the plans when they were last considered.
