No more bridge over troubled roadway!

12.00.00am GMT Thu 10th Feb 2005

A bridge which has been the cause of accidents and violence in the Belle Vale area is to be demolished.

The concrete walkway which crosses Childwall Valley Road by the Belle Vale shopping centre has in the past seen vandals dropping bricks onto passing cars and buses. The concrete structure itself had been a magnet for graffiti causing the Belle Vale area itself to look unattractive.

Now, after much effort and the raising of funding, the bridge is to be demolished.

Scheduled for mid February 2005, the demolition of the bridge will be welcomed by local people. The move follows a long campaign by local councillors Tom Marshall and Ian Phillips to get the bridge removed.
