New Superlambanana - thanks to Allerton Councillors.

2.17.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 22nd Jul 2008

Around 20 children at Springwood Heath have spent the last week painting 'Springy', which has been donated to the school by ward councillors in Allerton and Hunts Cross - Flo Clucas, John Clucas and Vera Best. The name was chosen following a competition within the school. "Springy" will make his or her first official appearance today (Tuesday 22nd)

As part of the project, they have also been creating their own Superlambananas out of papier-mâché.

Headteacher Phil Daniels said: "The pupils have absolutely loved coming up with their own design for the Superlambanana.

"It has captured their imagination - they just can't stop talking about it! I am looking forward to seeing the finished design.

"I am delighted that the school is able to play its part in this popular festival and contribute to the city's Capital of Culture celebrations."

The design is based around a woodland scene with heath land flowers to represent the name of the school.

Once unveiled, it will go on display in the grounds over the summer so local people will be able to see it as they walk past the school.

A total of 125 of the sculptures are currently on display across the city as part of the Go Superlambananas festival commissioned by the Liverpool Culture Company.
