Celebrating Liverpool's evacuees.12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 17th Jun 2009 3rd September 2009 will be the 70th Anniversary of the first evacuees leaving Liverpool. On 3rd September 1939 the first evacuees left the City's docks to places of safety for the duration of the war. "It is these people who we want to recognise in a series of events in September. I would like to see every evacuee in the city offered a certificate show recognise what happened to them during the war." said Cllr Flo Clucas, who represents Allerton and Hunts Cross. A host of events are being planned including: A tea dance at the Palm House A church service to remember those who lost their lives during the conflict. A black out of the City to show residents what it was like in the blitz. "Those people evacuated will have lots of memories of that time good and bad. I believe it is important that you remember what happened and remind the younger generations what happened to Liverpool and its residents during that time" said Cllr Flo Clucas. Cllr Clucas has been working with Council officers and staff at the Town Hall to generate ideas for events and to organise them.
