Lib Dems support Campaign on Burns Unit

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 18th Jun 2009

Liberal Democrats in South Liverpool are supporting a campaign to save the Burns Unit at Whiston Hospital.

There's been a review of the service in the North West and its proposed that the burns unit at Whiston closes and the service is transferred to Manchester.

Currently the burns unit services a population of around 4 million in an area which includes the petrochemical industry.

Liberal Democrats believe that forcing patients' to be transported further for treatment will put their recovery at risk, particularly in the case of serious burns.

A community campaign has already started to save the unit.
